Welcome to Balfour Castle on the Orkney Island of Shapinsay. Dramatically placed between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea, the ebb and flow of waves can be heard constantly.
Our home, now a Private Hotel, offers oak panelled rooms, log fires and comfortable bedrooms containing beautiful Victorian furniture and antiques. A perfect central location for touring the fascinating Orkney Archipelago.
Our private grounds offer a safe and peaceful haven in which to savour woodland walks, birdsong, wild flowers and the beauty of our Victorian walled gardens.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are picked daily and served with local game, meats and delicious seafood.
Excellent dinners are prepared by our experienced Chef and served at the Laird’s Table.
Shapinsay boasts wonderful wildlife, a variety of coastal walks, sandy beaches, archaeological sites and several artists.
