House O' Wards, our self catering cottage, is peacefully situated by the shore of Longhope Bay- used as a safe anchorage for centuries and still enjoyed by many visiting yachts and their crews.
The cottage is surrounded by farmland where, during the summer months, the renowned Orkney cattle and their calves, along with sheep and lambs, graze contentedly on the lush flower filled pastures.
The roadside verges are alive with wild flowers, butterflies, moths and insects, which flourish in harmony with the non-intensive, wildlife- friendly farming practices that are traditional to the islands. The skies are full of the sound of birdsong - the islands also offer a safe haven and feeding ground to a rich variety of bird life- whilst in the bay itself seals pop up for an inquisitive peep and quite often bask on the rocks below the cottage, "talking" to each other in the dusk.
